On Saturday 20th May Larne AC member Niámh McLaughlin took part in the Roe Valley Sprint Triathlon, Limavady.
The location meant an early 6:30am start to load up the transition area and prepare for the 9:30am start.
First up was the 750m swim, with Niámh starting strong with a 19:09 breaststroke before commencing the first transition. With the first transition complete in 3:10 it was onto the bike and out to the cycle route. The 20km cycle route sported stunning views with the challenging course covering Greystone road all the way to Drumsum before looping back. Despite rough terrain and an especially hilly route Niámh managed to shave off 6 mins from her predicted cycle time, performing an impressive 52:26 ride. Onto the final transition and Niámh was ready to run in just 2 mins 41. The 5k saw two loops (out and back) with Niámh having enough left in the tank to be home in 25:45, landing her with an overall time of 1 hour 43 mins and 12 seconds. This saw her walking home with 1st place in her category (F20-24).
An amazing result for her first ever triathlon.
Well Done Niamh.
