BALLYMENA BELLES, HILL AND DALE, SOUTHAMPTON, LARNE 10 MILE, ZOO 5K, MANCHESTER, LONDONBallymena Belles 5 mile race On Tuesday 9th April 2024 10 of the Larne Athletic Club Ladies took part amongst 335 Ladies to compete the Ballymena Belles 5 Mile Race. It was a beautiful April evening and this race is always worth the challenge to experience the wonderful post race spread!Finishing first for the club was Ashlynn Rodgers in 30th position with the impressive time of 37:41, followed by Emma Mckeen 43/335 and Beverly Gaston 46/335 in 39:49 to finish under 40mins. Next home for the club was Diane Hawthorne running strong in 121st for a time of 46:04, followed by Sharon Bell 208th in 50:15, Melissa Shields 217th in 50:37, Gail Montgomery 233rd in 51:13, Shiree McCosh Brennan 244th in 52:11, Pearl Henry 282nd in 55:11 and Catherine Todd 299th in 58:00.Well done to all runners and thank you to Michelle Mcintosh who couldn’t run due to injury but still came to support. Thanks to Ballymena Belles for a wonderful evening…See you again next year!Hill and Dale Castlewellan and TollymoreThursday evening, 11th April, saw the first race in this year’s increasingly popular Hill and Dale Race Series set in and about the Mourne Mountains. A record field of over 350 runners took part in the 5-plus-miles race in Castlewellan Forest Park which included some 900 feet of climbing around and over Slievenaslat. Andy Gregg completed the race in 137th place and a time of 48:44. The following week onThursday 18th April, Andy also took part in the second race of the series over a 4.3-mile course in Tollymore Forest. The route incorporated 930 feet of climbing on gravel paths, forest trails and some open mountain. Andy ran a much improved race this week, finishing 89thfrom almost 300 starters in a time of 42:01.Southampton MarathonOn Sunday 7th April, Thompson Crawford achieved his marathon goal crossing the line in 4:28:33👏. Storm Kathleen made conditions blustery & the course had over 1000ft elevation. As can happen at this distance with anyone he encountered some difficulty, at mile 17 his calf cramped up, so options remaining were either pull out or walk to the finish line, Thompson chose to walk & hobble the best he could for the remaining 9 miles. Without this setback he would probably have come in under 3:50. This injury was unfortunate considering the work he put in with prep, training and strength & conditioning sessions.Larne AC 10 Mile Coast Road RaceCongratulations to all club members who did Larne AC proud with their super runs and PBs at the highly competitive Larne AC 10 Mile Coast Road Race, April 13th. Conditions, although chilly for the 9am start, were perfect for tackling “those hills”. In a time of 40:08 the challenge was completed. A few people have asked me about this group.I can really recommend this group as a way to get past runners back into the fold and new runners into a lifestyle that will truly enhance your life. I’ve had a lot of people ask of the abilities required for this group and I have replied no matter what you think your ability is, this group will be for you as the training set out on a monthly basis for all of LAC groups is second to none and will improve your running. If you are worried about meeting these LAC runners don’t be as they are a great bunch who will totally welcome you into all into an amazing lifestyle.🏃‍♂️🌟 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝟯𝗥𝗗 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗣 🌟🏃‍♀️Larne AC are adding a third training group, starting on the first Tuesday in April.
