Great Craic in Dublin for Larne ACFive shivering Larne AC members joined 22,500 participants at the start line of Dublin Marathon. The cold, wet and windy morning did not dampen their spirits as they set out with hopes and anticipation about what would unfold over the next 26.2 or so miles.A mostly scenic route… taking in Pheonix Park, autumnal leafy roads and historic landmarks… eventually leading striding and hobbling runners alike along the ‘purple carpet’ to the cheers of the finish chute. The crowds, support, atmosphere and craic did Dublin proud!Well done to all runners, the training and commitment it takes to get to the start line is a big win in itself! As runners we can be very hard on ourselves … but persevering through the tough parts of a marathon, means digging deep! All 5 Larne AC members are winners, they dug deep and all made it to the finish line to receive their well deserved medal.Martan Keane had put the hard work in training and was feeling strong, looking forward to his first marathon since his return to running and was confident of another sub 3 hour finish. Unfortunately for Martan though, he was suffering from a stomach bug, which hugely upset his race on the day. After a few stops and deciding to walk, he was then patted on the back by the 3hr10 pacer who encouraged him to continue and just make it to the finish line, which he did in 3:11.43Juliane Keane went into the race relieved to be there after a recent achilles issue. Not knowing how it would go, she was delighted to run the full distance without the pain returning. She also managed to achieve her goal of a sub 3:40 finishing in 3:38:41… a PB and over 14 minutes faster than her Guinness World Record set last April in London for fastest female with multiple sclerosis. For Mark Todd, running Dublin, would be an unbelievable marathon total of 14!! Ever enthusiastic and full of fun, Mark even managed to refuel on a refreshing pint of beer with two miles to go. Mark still crossed the finish line in a sub 4 hr time of 3:56.27 We look forward to Mark’s 15th marathon in Belfast next year!Thompson Crawford has been running strong this year and followed up his recent half marathon successes in London and Belfast with a sub 4 hr marathon PB of 3:58:06!Emma McKeen, suffering from a cough and not favouring this years cold conditions, showed how strong and determined a runner she is by persevering and crossing the line in a superb time of 4:06.08. We wish Emma well as she recovers from a chest infection. All 5 runners, and supporters Catherine and Olga, were happy to meet up in the pub afterwards and get some heat back into their bodies… laughing at and sharing the joys and pains of their latest marathon experience. Thank you to Catherine Todd for her time organising restaurants to keep the runners fed and watered and for running 10 miles around Dublin herself to track us and take photos. See MoreSee Less

Slieve Bearnagh Mountain RaceOn Saturday 27th September, Andy Gregg travelled to the Mourne Mountains to take part in the Slieve Bearnagh Mountain Race, the last event in this year’s NIMRA Race Series. Weather conditions were brutal, with strong winds and heavy rain continuing relentlessly from registration, through the race and the prizegiving afterwards. As a result, a bad-weather course was used, taking advantage of the valley tracks and the Mourne Wall for shelter and summiting only the two peaks of Meelbeg and Meelmore, leaving out Slieve Bearnagh entirely.Andy finished in 46th place with a time of 1:00:52 in possibly the worst weather conditions he had ever previously raced in.Sinead McAllister sat out the race, having already secured a superb Bronze-Medal position in the NIMRA Championship after completing 8 races from 12. Superb Turnout for Larne AC at GRC Coastal 5k!On Friday evening, 29th August, 35 Larne AC members arrived in Carnlough to race the flat and fast 5k back to Glenarm. A favourite local race, with a great atmosphere and even a burger to look forward to at the finish line.Hat-trick for Jordan πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†Making it three years in a row, Larne AC’s Jordan Heron, once again, was the fastest overall athlete, finishing on top of the podium in a fabulous time of 15.17.πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘Second and third males home for the club were Ollie Reid (23rd) and Philip Rennix (25th), both with speedy new PBs of 18:28 and 18:33 respectively. Great to see all their hard work and training paying off. Philip had also just competed in the recent Antrim Coast Half Marathon!Juliane Keane, in the same week as competing in The Warriors Run, was first female for the club with her 2nd fastest 5k time of 20:43, (19th female). Second female for the club, was Kirsty Sharratt with a very strong time of 21:50( 29th female), followed closely by our third female Erin Millar 21:51 (30th). This also secured top spot for Erin in our club’s final handicap race of the year.Big congratulations also to Phelim McAllister who won the award for fastest local male.πŸ†Well done to all runners for their superb times, efforts and PBs.
