Over 40 000 runners took part in this years Edinburgh Marathon Festival at the weekend, making it the biggest sports participation event in Scottish history. The festival featured eleven races including a marathon, half marathon, team relay, 10k, 5k and six junior events.
On the Sunday, representing Larne AC, was Juliane and Martan Keane competing in the half and full marathon respectively. The weather was perfect, with very little wind and even some sunshine,Juliane joined 10 000 competitors at the start line of the half marathon. The stunning route begins at Holyrood Park, meanders down the historic Royal Mile with spectacular views of Holyrood Palace and Arthur’s Seat before heading out the coast along Portobello Promenade and finishing in Musselburgh.
Juliane, who was hoping to achieve her first sub 1:45 half marathon was more than delighted to finish in a time of 1:36:48, knocking 10 minutes of her PB. Overall place: 997, Female:172 Female 50 Category : 8th
The full marathon, following the same route as the half, had approx 9000 competitors. Martan paced his run well to achieve a PB of 2:57:27 and his third sub 3hr marathon. Overall place: 245 Male 40 Category: 34th
