Kilwaughter 10 Mile & 5K Road Race – 19/03/22

This is a brand new event hosted by Larne AC set to be a PB course and run on the flat beautiful Antrim Coast Road. The sun shone brightly lighting up the beauty of this out and back course but a stiff SE breeze made it a challenging return leg for the runners in both races.

5K Road Race

Seven members of LAC took part in this race starting in the Town Park out the Coast Road turning at the Black Arch to finish at the Larne Leisure Centre.

First home for the Club was John Steele who has really put a stamp on the 5K distance in recent months with another great run finishing 14th in a field of 102 with another sub 20 finish of 19:54. Emmett Woods was second home for the Club finishing 22nd in a excellent time of 20:38 closely followed by Sean McAllister 21:15 and Mark Todd 21:41. Ian Brennan followed finishing mid pack in 26:53 then father and son duo Luke Nobble and David Noble completed the LAC contingent with another sub 30 run for Luke finishing 64th in 28:54 followed closely by David in 28:55.

10 Mile Road Race

Eleven members of LAC lined up to take on the 10 mile race along side a strong field of 580 runners from all over the country. Starting at on the Coast Road the course took the field out through Drains Bay, Ballygalley and turning at the Halfway House Hotel returning against a stiff headwind to finish at the Larne Leisure Centre.

The wind didn`t hinder a strong run from the in form Jordan Heron who put in a great shift to finish first home for the Club and 15th in the field in an amazing time of 58:58. Recovery from recent illnesses both Martan Keane 1:07:14 and Alan Lockington 1:07:50 had strong runs to finish second and third for the Club in 89th & 95th position overall. Thomas Tosh Craig returned to racing after a long struggle with injury. Starting to build his fitness back to the strong endurance performances that we are so accustomed to getting from Tosh had a good steady run finishing 124th in a time of 1:09:49. Then in 173rd place Thomas Morrow had a good steady run finishing in a time of 1:14:18.

First lady home from the Club was Emma McKeen using this race as a warm-up race in her training for Belfast City Marathon put in a great performance to complete the 10 miles in 182nd place in time of 1:14:55. Paul Tilson also recovering from a long-term injury had a steady run finishing 210th in 1:17:53. Thompson Crawford another member in training for Belfast finished in 297th in a time 1:23:52. Our second lady home was Michele Woods with an excellent run finishing 462nd in 1:37:14. Andrew Davidson completed our men with a steady 1:37:33 run finishing 467th and completing our lady`s contingent was Senga Craig completing the 10 mile course in a great time of 2:07:24.
